Brain Teasers with Answers

Pick the kinds of teasers and a level, then play a quick quiz with a score or print a sheet of brain teasers with an answer key.

Brain teasers with answers are short puzzles that you solve by thinking, not by knowing facts. This brain teaser tool is free, runs in your web browser, and needs no sign-up. Nothing to install, and nothing you enter is uploaded.

The pool mixes seven kinds of puzzle: funny trick questions and riddle-style brain teasers, lateral riddles, picture puzzles, math puzzles, number sequences, matchstick puzzles, and knights and knaves. You can switch categories on or off and choose an easy, medium, hard or mixed level. A quiz tab tests you and shows your score, and a print tab builds printable sheets with answers, so you can solve the printouts with paper and pencil.

What is a brain teaser?

A brain teaser is a short puzzle that needs a bit of thinking rather than knowledge. It can be a trick question, a riddle, a picture puzzle, a number pattern or a logic problem. Many trick questions work through their wording. “A farmer has 17 sheep and all but 9 run away. How many are left?” The answer is 9, because “all but 9” means nine stay behind.

How do you get better at brain teasers?

Read the question word for word, because trick questions hide the answer in the wording. Say a picture puzzle out loud, since the words often reveal the phrase. In number sequences, look at the differences between numbers. In 2, 2, 4, 6, 10, 16, ?, each number is the sum of the two before it, so the next is 26.

In knights and knaves, assume one person is a knight (who always tells the truth) and follow the statements. If they contradict each other, try the person as a liar. If you are stuck, show the answer and read the reason, because the same patterns repeat across teasers. Cutting a round cake into eight equal slices with three straight cuts works this way too: two cuts make four wedges, you stack them, and one cut through the stack finishes the job.

Are there printable brain teasers with answers?

Yes. The Print tab creates printable brain teasers with answers placed on answer pages at the end, upside-down under each teaser, or left out entirely. Rebus and matchstick puzzles print as sharp pictures. If you want the answers hidden until the end, choose answer pages.

Are there brain teasers for kids or seniors?

Yes. Large print uses one column and bigger type, which makes the printouts easier to read for seniors and for children. The easy level keeps the teasers short. Mixed and hard levels suit adults who want more challenge.
